Our December prayer emphasis is Advent. Here are weekly prayers focused on hope, peace, joy, and love:
Advent Week 1: A Prayer of Hope
God of boundless hope, our hearts are open and waiting, just as Elizabeth and Zechariah, and Abraham and Sarah waited in trust and wonder. Through all seasons, you remain faithful, bringing life and promise even when hope feels far away. Inspire us to live in joyful expectation, to look beyond our doubts, and to see your hand working in our lives. Fill us with your light, kindle our hope, and remind us that you are a God of new beginnings. As we journey through Advent, help us embrace your hope. Amen.
How can we hold onto hope during trials?
Cultivate HOPE: Make a list of hopes and prayers for the new year.
Advent Week 2: A Prayer of Peace
Mighty God, as we journey through this Advent season, we thank you for the gifts of hope and peace. Help us to be our best selves, living with kindness in our hearts, especially when we face fear or uncertainty like King Herod did. May we learn from Herod’s choices and remember the importance of always offering goodness to those around us. Guide us to speak words of encouragement, to lend a helping hand, and to listen with open hearts. May we be instruments of your peace. Amen.
What does it mean to be our best selves?
Cultivate PEACE: Complete a simple act of kindness for a friend or family member.
Advent Week 3: A Prayer of Joy
God of abiding joy, thank you for sending Jesus, who brings hope, peace, and joy. Just as the magi followed the star with joy and faith, help us to follow your guidance in our lives. May we be open to the love you offer us and share that love with others. Remind us that our joy comes from you and is independent of our circumstances. This Advent season, fill our hearts with a joy that we can pass on to those around us. Help us to seek Jesus every day, just like the magi, and to welcome him with open hearts and joyful spirits. Amen.
What holiday traditions bring you joy?
Cultivate JOY: Make a list of these activities and share one with a friend.
Advent Week 4: A Prayer of Love
Loving God, thank you for the love you displayed by sending Jesus. We have enjoyed learning more about your gifts of hope, peace, joy, and love throughout this Advent season. Help us to be mindful of your great care for us. May we extend that care to others and act in a way that demonstrates your love to them. Equip us to share your love as the shepherds did, and continue to teach us about your love and grace. May our lives be a reflection of you. We praise you with loving and grateful hearts. Amen.
What makes you feel loved?
Cultivate LOVE: Send a note or card to a friend.
